With the encouragement of co-worker and CrossFit coach Meredith Davis, 18 Cannon

  • School educators in Concord, North Carolina, started training at CrossFit Vitality. In this nine-part series, these teachers and administrators go through CrossFit fundamentals and try to determine the cognitive impact of the program.

After four months, the Cannon School staff members who remain committed to health and fitness reflect on their experience with CrossFit. They have developed a community, met new people, gained new energy and become better educators of the students who look up to them.

“We get in it for the kids,” Davis says. “And they have to come first, so the fact that these teachers made the time for themselves through this whole process is huge, and it is a success that so many stuck with it.”

At the final gathering, the new CrossFit athletes express their gratitude to Davis and coach Steve Pinkerton for their patience, encouragement and hard work.

“Is their quality of life day in and day out better now than it was four months ago?” Pinkerton asks. “I think the answer to that question from all of these six or eight people is absolutely.”

A ballerina of 12 years, her thick, sinewy thighs propelled her nimbly across the floor as music swelled overhead. Her back muscles rippling as she extended in a graceful arch, she looked to her instructors for approval.
